Members of Windermere Real Estate Southern California’s La Quinta office, located at 47-250 Washington Street, recently visited the classes they support at Oasis School in Thermal. This is the third and final trip of the school year for the office, which also visits the students for back-to-school to give out school supplies and the holidays to hand out presents.
“We had an excellent final trip for this school year,” says Sandy Beakey, Managing Broker. “The students were all very excited to see us and celebrate the end of the school year.” Windermere Realtors® and staff brought the children books for summer reading and toys, including hacky sacks and jump ropes. “We organized a book drive and ended up giving out 400 books to the kids. All of the kids took home a few books to read over the summer, and a few even went home with a dictionary and thesaurus. It feels great knowing that we are encouraging the kids to continue their education and to pick up a book in the midst of summer activities while they are out of school,” continues Sandy.
Windermere began working with Oasis School 4th graders after learning that only one of the four classes was receiving support of some kind. Agents and staff began visiting three 4th grade classes and the special needs children three times a year with the items given to each student varying based on the season. The bond between the students and Windermere representatives grows strong, with the kids referring to them as their “Fairy Godmothers and Godfathers.”
When Windermere first began working with Oasis School, it was on a dirt road with no heating or air conditioning and few resources. Now, the school is growing, including a new music room for the children to enjoy. Windermere agents donated a piano, violin, drumsticks, and drums to help start the music program. “We love coming to the school and interacting with the kids. It is a very moving experience to know that we are making such a big impact in their lives. Our partnership is special, and we look forward to continuing to visit for years to come,” Sandy concludes.
“The La Quinta offices have done a remarkable job of creating an extraordinary relationship with the Oasis School and the families of the surrounding community,” adds Bob Deville, Co-Owner of Windermere Real Estate Southern California. “We have always tried to give back and partner with members of our community, especially those who may need some extra help throughout the year. To know that through our efforts, the lives of many are bettered is a tremendous feeling and a great accomplishment that makes us proud of all involved. Bob Bennion and I would like to congratulate Sandy and the La Quinta offices on their successful support of the 4th graders at the school, and encourage them to continue to be advocates for these children.”
