
There are plenty of fun things to do around the Coachella Valley, such as hiking, hitting the links, playing tennis, or getting pampered at the spa. However, when these awesome activities aren’t an option, we put together a selection of some of our favorite virtual events to fuel your curiosities and keep you connected. Modernism Week Online Experience
Through March 31st

Modernism Week is a staple of the desert’s lineup of signature events each year, drawing thousands of midcentury modern enthusiasts to the Greater Palm Springs Area to revel in the mid-mod aesthetic and to celebrate the icons of the MCM movement and their lasting impact on the world. Although the 2021 edition looks a little different, it brings a hybrid approach to the Modernism Week experience. Now through March 15th, you can participate in virtual Modernism Week events, including illuminating documentaries, virtual conferences, and more gripping pieces designed to enlighten, educate, and entertain. Tickets are available to purchase through March 15th, with streaming of the media available through March 31st.
For those of you who are interested in experiencing Modernism Week in-person, you are in luck. In addition to the online portion, there will be select tours and events open to a limited number of participants starting next month, running April 8-18. Tickets for these in-person events are available now and will go quickly so act fast.

SXSW
March 16th – 20th

The long-heralded SXSW (South-by-Southwest) festivals are coming to the virtual stage this month. After being cancelled last year, SXSW brings its format online for an enriching and immersive multi-day experience filled with energizing keynote speakers, breakout sessions, music showcases, film screenings, comedy acts, and so much more. SXSW is where so many cool, unique, and innovative creative trends, acts, and ideas got their start and big break. This year’s festival captures the creativity that is the hallmark of SXSW to bring a new form of the festival for its global audience to enjoy.
Keynote speakers at this year’s event include Pete Buttigieg, Charles Yu, and Priya Parker. Additionally, there will be a variety of sessions exploring a variety of topics with an all-star list of celebrities, speakers, and thought leaders, including President George W. Bush, Kenan Thompson, Dara Treseder, Chance the Rapper, Ava DuVernay, Werner Vogels, Dr. Sanjay Gupta, Don Lemon, and many more.
Traditionally a place to catch established headliners and the musical acts who will ascend to the top of the industry, the SXSW musical showcase is jam-packed again this year. Incorporating a wide band of genres and styles, the musical talent on display includes artists from around the globe. You can check out a playlist featuring performers on most major streaming platforms.
With all of this action jam-packed into a condensed few days, pass-holders are able to create a customized schedule in advance to put together their festival experience including films, conference sessions, music showcases, and special events. Films in the film festival portion of SXSW will start screening on March 16th, with 7 films launched at a time in 2-hour increments. Films will be available until the end of the weekend or until they reach “max capacity,” whichever comes first.

Nightly Met Opera Stream
Nightly at 7:30PM

Lift your spirits each night by tuning in to the nightly Metropolitan Opera live stream, available for free on The Met’s website. Updated daily, the live stream features an encore presentation of a full performance from the last 14 years, sourced from the vault of the company’s Live in HD series. This chance to catch some of the biggest names in opera on one of its biggest stages is available from 7:30PM EDT to 6:30PM the following day (that’s 4:30PM Pacific time to 3:30PM the following day).

Create A New Reality at the Virtual Online Museum of Art
Available to Visit 24/7

Explore the world’s first entirely virtual museum by visiting the Virtual Online Museum of Art, or VoMA. This immersive display allows you to celebrate diversity through glorious works of art from around the world in a decentralized space, creating inclusion and cohesion for all who experience it. Created by the people for the people, VoMA aims to offer a place where all are welcome and included regardless of location or socio-economic status.
Exhibitions rotate frequently within the virtual space so check back often to explore a different part of the museum and catch the latest installations. There are three exhibition places, including two galleries and an Artist Space. Featured artists include headliners such as Vincent Van Gogh and Frieda Kahlo, along with other noteworthy and important artists across notable artistic movements throughout history.

Backstage With A Magician

Have you ever wanted to get a more intimate magic experience? The Backstage With A Magician live streams with Noah Levine, presented by Magic After Hours, is your prime opportunity to enjoy the entertainment of magic from the best seat in the house – the comfort of your home! Performed over live video, this show features interactive tricks that occur in your house, sleight of hand, optical illusions, and more exciting and incredible acts. Tickets are $25 per household, with performances lasting 45 minutes.
Noah Levine is a world-renowned magician who has performed on the biggest stages and trained a stable of headlining acts and actors as they prepare for major roles. He is also a master scholar in the craft and an advocate for magic and its ability to entertain and heal. His experience and mastery is on full display with these live-streaming events.

St. Paddy’s Run/Walk
Registration Open Through 3/17

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by challenging your physical endurance with the St. Paddy’s virtual run/walk, presenting courses of various lengths for athletes of all abilities. Course distances include 5K, 10K, Half Marathon, and Marathon.
Registration is open now through March 17th, with a lucky grab bag of swag heading to the homes of participants, including a shirt, race bib, and finisher certificate. Medals are also available for purchase. To see how you stack up against other competitors, you will need to record your time via a running app tracker or wearable device and submit it online. However you choose to participate, this is your chance to get out, have fun, and burn some calories on or before celebrating St. Patrick’s Day!

Streaming St. Patrick’s Festival Celebration
March 12th – 17th

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and the days leading up to it with a virtual broadcast of the St. Patrick’s Festival, showcasing exceptional programming live from The Emerald Isle March 12th through the 17th.
The goal of the virtual St. Patrick’s Festival is to unite everyone who wants to celebrate so even though we are apart, we can enjoy the moment together. The 6-day event culminates with the St. Patrick’s Day virtual parade on Wednesday, March 17th, live streaming around the world. The festival organizers have created a hashtag to unite those who are watching the parade. Last year, the hashtag #RTEVirtualParade was trending at #1 and #2 worldwide across social media, with over 1.3 million tweets sent using the hashtag. This year’s virtual parade is expected to be even bigger.
The 6-days of streaming will feature over 100 events to check out, with a variety of content and subjects that will appeal to everyone. From things like dancing demonstrations, live music, storytelling and legends, arts and crafts, children’s entertainment, and more, all streaming around throughout the day and night, there is plenty to enjoy from this delightful celebration.
