The historic Balboa Theatre, located in Downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, will be showing off its state-of-the-art theater updates by screening classic films across all genres and time periods, including Coraline, Jurassic Park, Raiders of the Lost Ark, a Hitchcock double-feature of Vertigo and Rear Window, and more.

Opened in 1924 as a theater with storefront and offices, the Balboa Theatre has had a storied history as one of San Diego’s iconic entertainment venues. Over the near century since it opened, the theater has evolved with the growing trends of its audience. It has operated as a cultural film center for Latin American movies, a theater playing the latest action films, and now today as a performing arts center. At one point in time the Balboa was closed for over 20 years. While slated for demolition, the City of San Diego and the Centre City Development Corporation, San Diego’s redevelopment agency, pledged to save the historic landmark as a performing arts center and restore it to its original beauty with updated advancements. Six years later in 2008, the Historic Balboa Theatre reopened to the public where it has become a jewel in the heart of San Diego.
