Windermere Real Estate Southern California Realtor^® Stephanie Landavazo recently pitched in to help two local non-profit organizations, Spartan Soccer Association and the Yucaipa High School Girls Softball team, raise money for their programs by organizing annual golf tournaments. In addition to her personal involvement in the annual fundraisers, Stephanie’s Redlands-based real estate business, Landavazo Group, is one of the main sponsors of both events, with business affiliates participating in the tournaments. By leveraging her vast network and diligent efforts to launch the events, Spartan Soccer raised $13,000 and YHS Softball raised $22,000.

The golf tournaments were started as a means of raising money to support both programs in one fell swoop, rather than putting on several small fundraising events throughout the year. “The golf tournaments allow us to do it once, do it big, and raise as much money as we can,” says Stephanie. “There is a great deal of prep work throughout the year to get the tournament put together, including the ground work of asking for donations for our raffle, putting together the groups, working with the golf course, and marketing the event to get as many players as we can. Overall, it is a fun experience for everyone involved, and the players certainly have a great time the day of the event.”

Both tournaments are organized the same way, taking place at Yucaipa Valley Golf Club with a shotgun scramble and each foursome playing together as a team to achieve the lowest overall score. Each player on the winning team receives a certificate for a future foursome at a local golf course. In addition to the tournament fees, Stephanie and her groups were able to raise extra money by offering a poker run, taking place throughout the tournament. For an additional ante, players pick one card at five select holes to create a poker hand. The winner with the best five-card poker hand receives a separate side pot that they split with the tournament.

Stephanie became involved with the Spartan Soccer Association because of her daughter’s participation on the team. There were 110 total players at the Spartan tournament, the first year it has been held. Stephanie, a former YHS and US Women’s Olympic team softball player, is a softball coach at the high school. The YHS tournament was full, with 144 players participating this year, the eighth year the tournament has been held. “We are very happy with the outcome of both tournaments. I would like to extend a thank you to everyone who participated, whether through attending the tournaments or donating their time and resources to make them a success.”
