James Valletti, REALTOR®, joins The Paul Kaplan Group of Bennion Deville Homes, located at 1115 N. Palm Canyon Drive in the Palm Springs Uptown District. James works with clients throughout the desert, specializing in Palm Springs.

Prior to earning his real estate license, James carved out a successful career in New York’s entertainment industry, both as an editor for HGTV, as well as a producer and director on Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. His time spent in the fast-paced and detail-oriented world of show business primed him for a career in real estate. “While I was editing house hunting-style shows for HGTV, I got inspired to help people find their real-life dream homes,” James says. “There’s a lot of joy at the end of each episode, when the clients find their perfect property, and I really thrive on that. It felt like helping people with their home search was a natural career shift.”

During his time in show business, James acquired several skills that will set him (and his clients) up for success. “The ‘people factor’ in the real estate world and the entertainment industry is a common thread. You have to effectively collaborate and communicate with others in order to achieve a common goal. As a real estate professional, my number one focus is making sure I help my clients accomplish their objectives in any way that I can.” James also has experience working with all types of celebrity personalities and can adapt his style to serve any client. “Selling homes is, in a way, like putting on a show, and there are similar points of pressure. Stress is ever-present in both industries, and there are a lot of emotions to manage. Similarly, creativity plays a huge part in success: are you promoting a property in the most interesting and effective way possible? Are you capturing the attention you need to get potential buyers in the door (the proverbial ‘butts in seats’ question for a Broadway show), and are you getting the property sold?”

The keys to success for James are his commitment to his craft and his ability to effectively communicate. “You have to operate at a high level by communicating honestly, effectively, and with full disclosure, making sure all the while that you have a strong system in place to stay organized. A good friend and mentor of mine once said, ‘the difference between an amateur and a professional is the acceptance of responsibility.’ That has always resonated with me and reminds me to stand behind my work and take pride in what I do.”

James has been visiting the Greater Palm Springs Area since 2011. While working on a television show in Los Angeles, he would often escape to the desert for weekend getaways. “I have always loved the Coachella Valley. It’s surrounded by nature, has incredible weather, and the atmosphere here is second-to-none. In a big city like New York or Los Angeles, you are surrounded by buildings and a constant barrage of people. Palm Springs, though, really is a breath of fresh air. You can take some time for yourself and make the desert exactly what you want it to be. It’s a stark contrast to the big-city living I’m used to.” James and his business-and-life partner, Andrew Britt, were inspired to move to Palm Springs full time after making a visit a couple of years ago. “We made our escape to Palm Springs and want to show others the lifestyle they can have by living here, too. If we can do it, so can anyone!”

In addition to his passion for helping others professionally, James has avidly supported his community in his personal time. While living in New York City, he volunteered with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Actors’ Fund.  He also ran a book club for intellectually and developmentally disabled adults through AHRC. “I want to make people happy any way that I can and working with adults who have disabilities – who are all-too-often overlooked – is a way for me to counteract some of the negativity in this world. I would love to combine my passion for theater with my passion for working with those with disabilities. Perhaps one day I can create a program that empowers these individuals through the performing arts.”
