Windermere Real Estate Southern California congratulates Diane Williams and Robin DuFault on their graduation with the 2013 Class of Leadership Coachella Valley.  The 10-month program is designed to identify, develop, and motivate future community leaders. Each month, the class assembled to explore a single topic impacting the local communities, from Housing to Education to Economic Drivers.

“It’s been a wonderful opportunity to meet leaders from both the public and private sectors, to learn the issues that impact our local communities, and to gain an appreciation of the full complexity involved at a municipal level when addressing even a single issue,” shared Diane.

“It was an eye-opening experience every month. To be able to visit the facilities that process our power, provide our children’s education, grow the food we consume allows you to gain a wider vision for what is going on locally and what needs to be done,” said Robin.

Diane and Robin noted that some of their more unique and memorable experiences included their tours of the Sentinel Power Plant, the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission, The Living Desert’s Hospital, the McCallum Theatre, and the fields and facilities at Primetime Produce. Outstanding speakers and presentations included Rancho Mirage former mayor and current Council member Scott Hine’s reflections on his week spent homeless, Golden Voice’s Skip Paige’s reflections on launching the Coachella and Stagecoach festivals, as well as the discussions on the future of local medicine by Alison Sachs of the Lucy Curci Cancer Center and UCR’s Associate Vice Chancellor Phyllis Guze, M.D., to name just a few.

“My experiences at Leadership Coachella Valley certainly expanded my appreciation for the vast resources, human and environmental, that we have here. Personally, I have been motivated to install solar panels in my home and to renew my practice of recycling, among other projects,” said Robin. “It also increased my ability to more effectively resource my clients to contacts and organizations in the desert that fit their concerns and needs.”

“I was overwhelmed with excitement after each class and amazed at how each month my understanding of the Valley’s needs and aspirations deepened. To me, almost every problem we have locally and plans for expansion and growth are all tied to education. I have witnessed great philanthropic programs brought forth and maintained by local residents with great humility. I feel empowered to speak with my clients at a deeper level regarding the future of our valley. In the program, I forged new personal friendships and developed new business networks that I look forward to cultivating and growing,” said Diane.

Leadership Coachella Valley is still accepting applications for the 2013-2014 class. Applications must be received in the Leadership office by August 15. All applicants will be notified of their status on or before September 1, 2013.
