Bob Bennion and Bob Deville, Owners of Windermere Real Estate SoCal, are proud to recognize Realtors® JoAnn Bowers and Katie Alfrey for their dedication and philanthropic efforts on behalf of the Friends of the Women’s Resource Center (WRC) in Oceanside. The WRC is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing support services to women, children, and men threatened by domestic violence and sexual assault. Recently, JoAnn and Katie helped organize a luncheon fundraiser for the WRC at Shadowridge Country Club in Vista, which was sponsored by Bennion and Deville’s Windermere SoCal. The luncheon raised $6,100 and served 105 guests, with a keynote speech by Rebecca Leo, an author who chronicled her experiences raising a family in an abusive marriage.

JoAnn and Katie were drawn to the Friends of the WRC because of the general cause and focus of the auxiliary organization: Helping provide “normalcy” to the lives of children living with their mothers in the 2-year transition home. “All of the money we raise goes toward providing services for the children, including counseling, events and experiences, and extras, such as cribs, diapers, and Halloween costumes,” says JoAnn. Adds Katie, “We try to bring joy to the kids through museum art projects, giving them the opportunity to go to plays and to the movies, and other fun activities children enjoy.” JoAnn chaired the recent event and Katie helped organize the donations for the opportunity drawing and silent auction.

The Friends of WRC is an auxiliary organization comprised of 125 members who support the WRC through donations, with 25 members participating in an active role of volunteering their time and resources to put on the fundraisers and work with the Residential Housing Director at the WRC directly to ensure that the center’s needs are being met. JoAnn took an active role 9 years ago when a client introduced her to the organization. She attended the first ever luncheon and has been a part of the organization ever since. Katie got involved because of the WRC’s local roots that span over 35 years in San Diego County.

“We are proud of JoAnn and Katie for their commitment to this worthy cause,” says Managing Broker Joe Wogoman, who attended the event with Branch Manager Suzanne Drace. “The services that the WRC provides are critical to our community. It is a safe resource for victims of domestic violence to seek and we are happy to support any way that we can.”
