Vibrant. Bold. Electric. Pop art’s unique, influential style is on full display at the Orange County Museum of Art with Pop Art Design, a stunning exhibition boasting exceptional works from the genre’s biggest names, including Andy Warhol, Claes Oldenburg, Roy Lichtenstein, Ed Ruscha, and Richard Hamilton. Expanding from works of art into the design realm, pieces from Charles Eames, George Nelson, Achille Castiglioni, and Ettore Sottsass are also on display. Spanning fifty works of art and eighty design objects from international museums, this exhibition offers an opportunity to soak up highlights from the Pop Art movement.

A fixture of the 1950s, the pop art movement set out to challenge fine art by incorporating popular culture imagery, such as news or advertising. The resulting works are some of the most highly-regarded and recognizable pieces in the world due to their “pops” of color, daring subject matter and commentary, and iconic place in the zeitgeist.
