David Carden, Realtor® at Windermere’s Palm Springs Main office(850 N. Palm Canyon Drive), is passionate about Palm Springs. 40 years after his first visit, he continues to champion the city he loves as a driving force behind Volunteer Palm Springs.
“One of our city’s finest assets is its wonderful people…friends, co-workers, neighbors…striving to keep Palm Springs the vacation and residential treasure it is,” says David. “How Volunteer Palm Springs (VPS) helps is by bringing individuals together with some great volunteer organizations.”
VPS, born in the fall of 2010, already boasts almost 500 members. Founded as a grassroots non-profit, VPS has rolled out three popular programs, each designed to encourage community spirit through volunteerism:
The Window Walk: Art + Design on Palm Canyon program features works of two local artists, Jean Bradley and Terry Masters, displayed in vacant storefronts with vinyl reproductions of their art. Joining with the city of Palm Springs and the buildings’ owners, VPS showcases local artists while attracting potential tenants to future business sites.
Last season VPS held eight Visitor Friendship Receptions for local residents, ‘snowbirds’ and extended-stay visitors. Held at local restaurants, these are an excellent way for social networking and getting better acquainted with Palm Springs. This season, the program will be expanded to fifteen receptions.
“Our most popular VPS program is Shop Local,” says David. “The program is simple – to encourage each of us to think Palm Springs when making those retail purchases, dining out or looking for entertainment. The goal is to enroll at least 200 businesses by December, with over 60 businesses already participating. For additional information, visit the VPS website: www.volunteerpalmsprings.org.
