Members of Windermere Real Estate Southern California’s Team Monterey, which is comprised of Realtors® Michele Rodi, Joan Marshall, and Dean Wartelle, recently held a Monterey Country Club Home Tour to raise money for The Joslyn Center’s Meals on Wheels program. For the eighth year, the team, based out of the Palm Desert San Pablo office located at 44-530 San Pablo Avenue, sold tickets for the home tour, which typically consists of 8 to 10 recently renovated homes, with tour-goers travelling in golf carts and cars from home to home. The team raised a total of $3,160 for Meals on Wheels through their fundraising efforts this year.
“This is a fun annual event that everyone in the community looks forward to,” says Joan Marshall. This year’s tour featured eleven homes and finished at Joan’s house for a cocktail party. The cost of the cocktail party was subsidized by Team Monterey so all of the proceeds from the ticket sales went to the cause. “This tour generates a lot of interest from the homeowners because it gives us a chance to get out and have fun together. We get to see what our neighbors have done recently to upgrade their homes, hopefully sparking some ideas for our own living spaces,” adds Joan. Each home on the tour is typically hosted by the homeowner or a friend of the owner and includes a full tour, highlighting any upgrades and contact information for the contractors who performed the work.
Team Monterey started the event several years ago, with all of the proceeds going to Desert Cancer Fund. This is the first year the event has benefitted Meals on Wheels. “We want to give back to the community and have some fun in the process. This home tour has the perfect balance of building community camaraderie, showcasing our club’s gorgeous homes, and coming together to support a worthy cause,” continues Joan. Working in concert with the Women’s Golf Group at the club, Team Monterey was able to expand the event’s promotion this year, with posters in the locker rooms, clubhouse, and other highly visible places around Monterey Country Club. “Having the Women’s Golf Group help us with the promotion was huge. We usually generate a great deal of interest in this event, but this year was even better because of the additional exposure and buzz surrounding it,” concludes Joan.
The Joslyn Center Meals on Wheels program offers weekly meals to seniors who are homebound, frail, or low income, providing access to healthy and nutritious meals on a consistent basis. There are currently 60 seniors in the program with a weekly cost of $40 per person to provide the meals. The center also offers a program called Penny’s Pantry, serving thousands of low income seniors each year with non-perishable foods and fresh produce. “We are proud of what Team Monterey has accomplished over the last several years in organizing this creative fundraiser,” says Chris Anderson, General Manager. “The Home Tour has become an annual staple in the Monterey Country Club community, and the new partnership with Meals on Wheels is a perfect fit. The services they offer seniors in our community are vital and need as much support as possible.”
