Windermere Real Estate Southern California is thrilled to congratulate their own Johnsie Walsh who received the 2013 Walter N. Marks Realtor® of the Year by the Palm Springs Regional Association of Realtors. Johnsie received the award at the recent Installation dinner for the new, incoming board members for PSRAR at Melvyn’s Restaurant in Palm Springs. Outgoing 2013 President John Burge, also a Windermere agent, presented Johnsie the award along with Dwayne Carrier, President Elect for 2014, and Becky Bowles, President Elect for 2015.
“We have a number of criteria that we look at when considering candidates every year for this award,” shared Burge. “The ideal Realtor should promote the industry, be involved with and promote their local Board, and should live up to the Code of Ethics set forth by the National Association of Realtors®. Based on those criteria as well as her eternally upbeat personality, Johnsie’s name came up on every list. She is an incredible agent who gives selflessly of her time to support and promote the Board and all of its functions.”
Johnsie Walsh has been working as a Realtor for 27 years. Johnsie works with the full range of real estate clients and properties, from first-time home buyers to luxury estates. She focuses her attention primarily on the home markets from Palm Springs to Palm Desert, but will go anywhere her clients are interested in. Originally from the Washington, D.C. area where she worked for 20 years as an agent, Johnsie moved to the Coachella Valley seven years ago after vacationing here. “I immediately fell in love with the entire valley from Palm Springs to Indio. There is nowhere else in this country that has this unique combination of gorgeous natural beauty, near perfect weather and an easy, laid-back attitude,” shared Johnsie. “It’s easy to make friends here and the combination of location and sunlight makes for happy residents.”
Outside her own real estate business, Johnsie likes to volunteer her time with the Palm Springs Board where she has been a past committee member and will co-chair the Special Events Committee in 2014. The committee organizes all of the mixers and fundraisers that the Board and associated Realtors put on throughout the year for their own annual scholarship to College of the Desert as well as local charities, such as the Boys & Girls Club of Cathedral City, Save-A-Pet, and Well in the Desert. “I really love the ability to network, learn and support the community through the programs at the Palm Springs Board,” said Johnsie. “Whether it’s through their weekly speakers at the meetings or their fantastically organized home tours, I’m always getting a chance to grow my knowledge as a Realtor, not only on the local market but the industry as whole as well.”
Another interesting side note in Johnsie’s real estate career is that while working in Washington, D.C. real estate, she rented her townhouse for three years to a junior senator who was just getting his start in town. Little did she know that senator would not only work on one of this future books there but would eventually leave her townhouse to move to the White House. Johnsie’s tenant, of course, was President Barack Obama. This past June while meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping at The Annenberg Retreat at Sunnylands, the President invited Johnsie for a meet-and-greet as they had never actually met while he was her tenant. “The row townhouse is extremely well located. It is still on the DC bus tour where they announce it as the place President Obama lived just before he became President,” said Johnsie.
An agent at Windermere’s Rancho Mirage office, Johnsie Walsh is a high-energy, positive force in and out of the office. “Johnsie is a very important part of the Rancho Mirage Office team and is supportive of all our efforts to promote an espirit de corps,” said Don Rossignol, Managing Broker for Windermere’s Rancho Mirage office. “Johnsie has had another successful sales year, and her level of professionalism and client support is unparalleled.”
“Johnsie is a one-of-a-kind Realtor. Her energy is contagious and her passion for her clients and real estate is a noted influence within the company,” said Bob Deville, co-owner of Windermere Real Estate Southern California. “We couldn’t be more pleased to congratulate Johnsie on this well-deserved award.”
